Two South Windsor public elementary schools will be getting additions next year.
The Ministry of Education has committed $7.6 million to the Greater Essex County District School Board to expand Glenwood Public School and Roseland Public School.
"We are so grateful to the government and to the ministry for providing us with the money to be able to do these expansions right in the current schools instead of a new build and moving families and changing boundaries," said Director of Education Vicki Houston.
Both schools are currently facing growing enrollment and over-capacity. There are 560 students enrolled in Glenwood Public School and 510 in Roseland Public School.
The additions will create 184 new student spaces at each school.
"We're seeing apartment complexes, especially in the Roseland area, being built. There's the subdivision just right behind Roseland Public School that was built and we're waiting for occupancy in some of those homes which of course will be enrollment for our schools," said Houston.
Design work for both additions will begin immediately with construction to be completed in 2026.
