Queens Park celebrates WIFF with a $125K investment

The Ontario government has given the Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) an early 20th anniversary present.

Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced on Friday that Ontario is providing WIFF with $125,000, as part of the Experience Ontario 2024 program.

"The Windsor International Film Festival is one of the most treasured annual cultural events in Windsor-Essex, and the Ontario Government’s ongoing commitment to the event is testament to the incredible growth that WIFF has seen over two decades," said Dowie. "WIFF has grown to be the leading volunteer-run festival in Canada, showcasing local, national, and international films while growing its economic impact to Windsor-Essex every year."

The Experience Ontario 2024 program consists of a $19.5-million fund supporting tourism, small businesses, and cultural events across the province.

WIFF's Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie said that the support from Queens Park only brings positive vibes.

"The province of Ontario has proven again and again that they are committed to building and growing WIFF into the nationally recognized, industry-leading cultural destination that it is," said Dowie.

The 20th-anniversary edition of WIFF will run from October 24 to November 3.

WIFF Under the Stars, featuring family-friendly films screened outdoors, will take place from June 7 to 9 outside Art Windsor-Essex and the aquatic centre.
