Despite adding 800 jobs to the local economy, Windsor's unemployment rate climbed by 0.9 percentage points in April.
At the same time, another 2,900 people joined the labour force.
Those factors combined resulted in a jobless rate of 8.4 per cent, up from 7.5 per cent in March.
Across Canada, Statistics Canada's Labour Market Survey for April said the national economy added 90,000 net jobs, 50,000 of which were part-time.
Again, the labour force participation rate sheds some light on why the national unemployment rate remained at 6.1 per cent. It climbed one-tenth of a percentage point to 65.4 per cent, the first time that measure has increased since June 2023.
Ontario's jobless rate also didn't shift by much. It remained steady at 6.8 per cent last month despite adding 25,000 jobs. The employment rate dipped 1.6 per cent from April of last year.
The survey said total hours worked in April increased by 0.8 percentage points from March and 1.2 per cent from a year ago.
Average hourly wages continue to climb in Canada. That increased 4.7 per cent last month, or $1.57 to $34.95.
