Work underway on Point Pelee National Park observation tower

Work to repair the guardrails on the viewing tower at Point Pelee National Park is finally underway.

The tower at the base of the tip stretching out into Lake Erie offers a 360-degree view of the park and the lake. It shut down in May 2022 after officials found an issue with the guard rails.

Parks Canada said a contractor has been hired and it's working closely with the company to ensure there is as little disruption as possible for visitors in the park.

The contractor is doing some of the work off-site.

Point Pelee National Park and the tip both remain open to the public.

Parks Canada hopes to reopen the observation tower as soon as possible.
