The provincial government is providing $1.98 million in funding to improve access to primary health care in Windsor-Essex.
The funds will be split between the Community Health Centre at the Canadian Mental Health Association – Windsor-Essex County Branch and the Mobile Clinic operated by Erie Shores Healthcare.
Windsor Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie said the funding will help serve an additional 8,000 people.
"We know that you are getting frustrated with the pace of access to care and that's why we are making investments to make sure you have someone you can go see as quickly as possible, close to home," said Dowie.
The Mobile Clinic travels throughout Windsor and Essex County to under-serviced areas to provide wellness checks, vaccinations, cancer screenings and connections to additional services.
Erie Shores Healthcare CEO Kristin Kennedy said the additional funding will allow them to extend the hours of the mobile clinic.
"Operations originally were Monday through Friday, typical work day hours which don't always service the general population and so we'll be expanding into evening hours and weekends as well," said Kennedy.
