Amherstburg hosting open house for Heritage Conservation District study

The Town of Amherstburg is hosting an open house as part of a Heritage Conservation District Study.

If the town receives designation it would protect heritage properties and other heritage attributes in the selected area. The designation would mandate that any renovations, additions, and future developments complement the district's character.

"The preservation of our historic core is paramount as Amherstburg continues to evolve," said Amherstburg Mayor Michael Prue. "The Heritage Conservation District Study underscores our commitment to honouring our town's and the nation’s rich heritage while accommodating growth responsibly."

Town officials worry changes to provincial legislation to address affordable housing could "jeopardize cultural heritage" in the town's historic core.

The Heritage Conservation District aim would be to preserve cultural assets and foster a distinctive environment.

Town planners and the study consultant will be on hand to discuss the study on April 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Libro Centre.
