Warden highlights County of Essex's role as the region booms

Warden Hilda MacDonald expects great things for the County of Essex in the coming year.

MacDonald spoke at the annual Warden's Luncheon at the Ciociaro Club in Tecumseh on Wednesday afternoon. the audience included municipal councillors, municipal staff and officials from businesses and organizations from Windsor and Essex County.

"I hate to say that old cliché we're on the cusp of greatness but I think we are and it does take courage to move forward but we've also been building really great relationships and I think that the fact that we can move together will be what takes us to where we want to go," said MacDonald.

She said that as the region booms in population, the County of Essex will have a role in supporting municipalities to grow sustainably.

"The housing piece, the industrial land acquisition, those kinds of potential opportunities have never been in front of us before and now they are and we've got a council that is willing to take those chances along with our partners," said MacDonald.

She said the county is ready to leverage opportunities from major regional projects, like the Gordie Howe International Bridge, the electric vehicle battery plant and the new hospital.

MacDonald also highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector in the region and the major innovations they are making in the field.
