Tecumseh to place naloxone kits at some facilities

The Town of Tecumseh will soon make naloxone kits available at some of its municipal facilities.

Councillors signed off on a two-year pilot project in partnership with the Ontario Naloxone Program Tuesday night to keep the kits on fire trucks and town facilities.

Between 2020 and 2023, the town had 20 emergency calls for suspected opioid overdoses where naloxone was administered in 11 cases.

The kits would be located at facilities that already have a public access defibrillator. They'll be inside the defibrillator case. When the door of the case is opened, an alarm will sound alerting staff to the emergency.

The cost of the pilot project is $1,200.
