Design plans for new interchange underway

The City of Windsor is working quickly to finalize design plans for the new Banwell Road and E.C. Row interchange.

On Monday, Premier Doug Ford visited the region to announce $50-million in funding to help complete the project.

City Engineer Mark Winterton said construction could start this fall and is expected to take two years to complete.

"We're going to have to really accelerate the project from a design, construction point of view," said Winterton. "It's super exciting from an engineering point of view to be able to work on a project as transformative as this, something that was needed long before the NextStar plant came along."

Originally the city only had plans to complete some preliminary work on the interchange this year. With the announcement of provincial funding, the entire project will move forward.

It's estimated the entire project could cost around $85 million.
