Toolkit aims to develop talent for EV sector

There's a new resource available for companies looking to attract and develop staff for the electric vehicle sector.

This week, Workforce WindsorEssex launched its EV Sector Talent Development, Attraction, and Retention Toolkit.

The report provides recommendations for community partners to help support the growth of the sector by supporting the talent pipeline.

"It's aimed at key decision makers in our region to know what recommendations we've made and actions to achieving those recommendations to help support a robust workforce that's able to supply talent for our growing EV sector," said Corey Shenken, Special Projects Lead.

The recommendations include leveraging newcomer and immigrant populations, promoting women in automotive and more outreach to students and parents.

"We do have a ready and available skilled workforce that already exists in Windsor-Essex so we know that we're a region that's built on automotive and manufacturing so we do have a lot of individuals that currently have skills and just need a little bit of upskilling or retraining to enter EV sector jobs," said Shenken. "But if projections are correct about the jobs that are going to be created through EV sector investment we're going to have to attract and develop more talent to keep up with the demand."

The toolkit can be accessed through the Workforce WindsorEssex website.

The kit was created with an Ontario Labour Market Partnership grant from the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
