The Municipality of Leamington has a logo to help celebrate its 150th anniversary, thanks to its community.
The municipality asked residents what design they would like, and the community responded with 552 votes cast. The winner received 318 of those ballots.
"We are grateful to everyone who participated in the voting process," said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. "This logo -- is a reflection of our municipality's journey, its rich agricultural roots, its beautiful landscapes, and the vibrant community that calls Leamington home."
The logo represents Leamington's unique location along the shore of Lake Erie. The green plant nods to its agricultural heritage and celebrates its success in farming everything from tobacco and tomatoes to its burgeoning cannabis sector. The Monarch Butterfly symbolizes the beauty and natural wonder of its position along the migration route, and the birds represent the annual migration and influx of tourists each year.
The logo will be featured on merchandise.
The Leamington 150th Anniversary Committee is organizing a series of events to mark the occasion.
