Windsor police's arson unit is investigating a fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m., Windsor Fire and Rescue crews responded to a commercial property on Metcalfe Road near Drouillard Road. When they arrived, they found an office trailer engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and no one was hurt.
Damage was estimated at $70,000.
Despite the cause of the fire being undetermined, officials called in the arson unit after surveillance video showed someone approaching the trailer about 15 minutes before the fire broke out. The person then left after a few minutes.
Residents and business owners in the neighbourhood are asked to check their security cameras and call police if the footage turns up anything unusual in the area early Wednesday afternoon.
Windsor fire officials have also passed along tips to keep properties secure after an increase in suspicious fires. Property owners should ensure all entry points are secured, remove flammable items, and provide adequate lighting.
Anyone with information should call the Windsor police's arson unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
