Essex releases updated Emergency Preparedness Guide

When disaster strikes, the Town of Essex wants to make sure its residents are prepared.

It's launched a new set of tools to help residents in the event of an emergency.

The tools are on the municipality's website, but the town hopes residents will print it off and keep it with their 72-hour emergency kit. In extreme events like a winter storm, flooding, or tornado, residents often lose power and cellphone service, and the guide contains crucial information on procedures, key contacts, and resources.

It also contains information on those disasters that are less common in the region, including earthquakes, hazardous spills, and wildfires.

For those who don't have access to a computer or printer, a paper copy of the guide is available at Essex Town Hall, the Essex Centre Sports Complex, and the Harrow Arena.

"We urge all residents to keep a current copy of the Emergency Preparedness Guide in their 72-hour kit to ensure they have all the information they need to keep their family safe," said Mayor Sherry Bondy.

Residents should also sign up for Essex Alerts to find out about evacuations, road closures, and other critical developments.
