A local hospital's efforts to champion organ and tissue donation have been recognized by the province.
Windsor Regional Hospital has been honoured with three awards by the Ontario Health Trillium Gift of Life Network, covering 2022/2023.
"Windsor Regional Hospital has made an outstanding contribution to organ and tissue donation in Ontario, and we are proud to partner with their exemplary team of healthcare professionals throughout the year to continue this vital work," said Ontario Renal Network and Trillium Gift of Life Vice-President Rebecca Cooper.
The hospital has received an achievement award for provincial conversion rate, for meeting or exceeding the target of 63 per cent set by Ontario Health for potential donors who become actual ones.
WRH also received an achievement award for the provincial eligible approach rate, meeting or exceeding the target of 90 per cent for facilitating discussions with eligible families about organ and tissue donation.
The hospital has also won an Award of Excellence for meeting or exceeding provincial conversion targets for four years in a row.
In 2022/23, Windsor Regional Hospital reported 13 organ donors, which resulted in 43 organs donated for transplant, saving the lives of 37 recipients. There were also 39 tissue donors in that time frame.
