Leamington to introduce community safety zones in 2024

The Municipality of Leamington will bring a safety initiative to its waterfront in the new year.

Following a report presented to Leamington Council in November, the community will introduce community safety zones to the waterfront area sometime in early 2024.

"Community Safety Zones are specific areas where increased safety measures are applied in locations where public safety is of special concern," read a release from the Municipality.

The zones will be located along Erie Street from Conover Avenue to its southern limit, Robson Road from Erie Street South to Cherry Lane, and Cherry Lane between Robson Road and Bruce Avenue.

Each zone will feature increased traffic enforcement and calming techniques, to reduce the risk of pedestrians being injured and collisions taking place.

Signs will be installed in these zones in the new year, and the OPP will take charge of the enforcement.

A map of the community safety zones can be found on the Municipality's official website.
