The Town of Amherstburg is beginning work to revitalize some riverfront property to extend King's Navy Yard Park.
Crews have begun removing dock remnants and will upgrade the shoreline on properties at the foot of Gore Street, the former Duffy's property.
"Working both on land and with a barge in the water we're going to stabilize the shoreline all the way along there with some rock revetment, make sure that it's secure and then we can add future phases in terms of grading, landscaping, walkways and the rest of what's planned for that land," said Heidi Baillargeon, Director of Parks, Facilities, Recreation and Culture.
The preliminary work will be completed by the spring of 2024.
"People will start to see some earth work, some grading, some subsurface things go in. We're hoping to make the site green, put some preliminary walkways in and get some of the elevations changes and grading that's needed on site done as well," said Baillageon.
The town has been looking for complete this project since 2018.
"This project is a testament to our commitment to preserving and enhancing our town's natural beauty. The waterfront is a cherished asset, and the improvements will undoubtedly contribute to Amherstburg's appeal," said Amherstburg Mayor Michael Prue.
