Pay raise coming to Tecumseh's mayor

Windsor-Essex's longest-serving mayor will get a raise in the new year.

On Tuesday night, Tecumseh Town Council approved its remuneration report for 2024, with Mayor Gary McNamara getting a salary bump in the new year.

The mayor will receive a raise from $47,258 to $59,496.

The report was prepared by consultant Marianne Love of ML Consulting. Tecumseh's pay rates for elected officials were compared with 14 others in Ontario at a similar compensation level. Those included Lakeshore, Leamington, Amherstburg, LaSalle, Kingsville, and Essex.

"Based on the consultant’s analysis, the 2023 base pay remuneration for the Mayor is low relative to the defined pay market," read the report. "The base pay remuneration for the deputy mayor and councillor positions, however, are generally reflective of the 65th percentile pay target. Other remuneration elements studied such as meeting per diems, benefits provisions, retirement plans, and range of percentile groups, are all comparable to the market group."

Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti's compensation is the same at $35,509. The salaries for councillors Alicia Higgison, James Dorner, Rick Tonial, Brian Houston, and Tania Jobin also are steady at $28,137.

Tecumseh's council salaries were last reviewed in 2019.
