Impaired driving implicated in four county crashes

The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police arrested five drivers for impaired driving over the weekend as the investigation into four separate collisions continues.

The crashes were in Essex, Tecumseh, and Leamington.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The first crash, on Fairview Avenue East at Talbot Street South in Essex, involved two vehicles. That was just before 6 p.m. on Friday. Officers suspected one of the drivers had been drinking, so they conducted a roadside test and arrested a 45-year-old woman from Harrow.

About 24 hours later, police arrested a 52-year-old Tecumseh man after a second two-vehicle crash on County Road 22 and Manning Road.

The third crash was in Leamington.

Police tracked down a vehicle suspected of hitting a parked car on Marlborough Street East early Sunday morning. This time, they arrested a 39-year-old Leamington man.

Later that afternoon, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Blackacre Drive in Tecumseh. That's where a 39-year-old LaSalle man tested "WARN" in a roadside test. Police didn't charge him, but they suspended his license for three days.

A fifth incident didn't result in a crash, but five charges against a 26-year-old Wheatley man after police spotted a vehicle being driven aggressively on Talbot Street West in Leamington. The charges include the operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and having liquor readily available.

The OPP issues an update each Monday morning detailing impaired driving charges during the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign.
