The Windsor Goodfellows are preparing for their annual paper drive at a time when demand for their programs is up 40 per cent.
The organization is facing financial challenges meeting the jump in need over the past two years and fears it may not be able to maintain current service levels in the long run.
It blames a combination of a growing clientele and higher food prices.
While the Windsor Goodfellows are primarily known for the paper drive each November and its Christmas basket program, it also supports a food bank, a breakfast program in 27 local schools, a children's footwear program, and lunch for those experiencing homelessness every Tuesday and Friday.
This year's Goodfellows Annual Paper Drive is from November 23 to 25. Volunteers will be on the streets and in local stores collecting donations.
"A large amount of our annual income comes from these three days of selling papers in the community, so we need the community to come together now more than ever," said the organization.
About 600 people volunteer with the Windsor Goodfellows.
