Even before Windsor's big holiday celebration gets underway, it's been dealt a blow in the form of a weekend fire.
Firefighters were called to Jackson Park around 4 p.m. on Sunday to extinguish a fire in a corn maze.
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services Fire Prevention Officer Mike Coste said the fire destroyed the maze.
He said the fire may have started in multiple spots, but it will be difficult to pinpoint a cause since the fire service had to use heavy equipment to tear the corn apart to put it out. As a result, the cause is undetermined.
The fire caused 100-thousand dollars in damages.
No one was hurt, and Coste said Paladin Security patrols the site.
Meanwhile, Windsor Police ask anyone with information to call 519-255-6700, Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or leave a tip online at www.catchcrooks.com.
Organizers of Bright Lights Windsor plan to open the festival on December 1. There is no indication if the fire will delay those plans. It closes on January 7, 2024.
