Moving day for paramedics stationed in Kingsville

After 23 years, paramedics are moving into their new EMS base in Kingsville.

The new station at 75 Road 2 East is much bigger than the old base down the road, which they've shared with Kingsville Fire Services since 2000.

Unlike the old station, the new one has room in its bay for six ambulances, a lounge to accommodate ten people, and an emergency vehicle fueling depot. While the old station had just one washroom and little storage, the new one has men's and women's washrooms.

"The other base was quite small, a bit of an older station," said EMS Chief Justin Lammers. "It's got quite a sizeable crew room, some room to spread out, and if they have any downtime, there's room to relax."

The design is similar to the EMS base on Dougall Avenue in Windsor.

Lammers said it was necessary because the population of the county is growing.

"We anticipate demand to go up in our entire region, so we're trying to take the steps to get ahead of that," explained Lammers.

The Town of Kingsville bought the land in April 2021 and started construction last year. The contract with Gulf Developments was worth $4.3-milllion.
