A board member of a foundation overseeing a small Windsor hospice has received national recognition.
Nancy Lefebre, a board member at the St. Elizabeth Foundation, received the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) Conference's Award for Excellence last week.
Lefebre, the senior vice-president and COO for SE Health, was honoured for her efforts to make palliative care available, particularly to those experiencing homelessness or facing financial challenges.
"Nancy Lefebre's tireless commitment to improving access to palliative care, and advocacy for continuity of care have left an indelible mark on the hospice palliative care field in Canada," said CHPCA CEO Laurel Gillespie. "We are honored to present her with CHPCA's Award of Excellence in recognition of her leadership and unwavering dedication that have enhanced the quality of life of countless individuals facing life-limiting illnesses and enriched the palliative care community across the country."
Windsor's Journey Home Hospice is the satellite location of its flagship hospice in Toronto. It is a three-bed facility hosted by Assisted Living of Southwestern Ontario (ALSO) and the City of Windsor. The hospice is dependent on donations and does not receive provincial funding.
