Face-to-Face campaign raises record amount for Hospice

This year's Face-to-Face campaign in support of the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County raised a record-breaking $125,791.00.

The annual campaign started 21 years ago and encouraged people in the community to ask 10 friends for a $10 donation.

"If everyone just did that, which they have to get $125.000 in 45 days, it works," said campaign founder John Fairley.

Over 21 years, the campaign has raised over $1.5 million for Hospice.

The campaign supports the Fairley Family Transportation program and the new G.E.N.I.E Transportation program.

The first program offers rides to medical appointments and other wellness programs on Hospice vehicles driven by volunteers.

The G.E.N.I.E program fulfils requests for special trips or outings to patients receiving Hospice care. Transportation is offered on an upscaled ambulance driven by a volunteer paramedic.

"To be able to pick them up in a comfortable EMS, with volunteers, volunteering and it's safe, it's been incredible," said Nancy Brockenshire, executive director of Hospice of Windsor-Essex.

The program has taken patients on a variety of last special request trips like going to a nail salon with their daughter or a final concert at Caesars Windsor with their family.
