51 organizations receive grants through Community Services Recovery Fund

The federal government supported 51 local organizations through the Community Services Recovery Fund.

The $400-million fund was dedicated to charities, non-profits, and Indigenous governing bodies to adapt, modernize and grow services.

Organizations based out of Windsor, Essex County and Chatham-Kent received nearly $2.5 million of that funding. The grants were distributed through United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County and the WindsorEssex Community Foundation after an application process in the winter of 2023.

“Local organizations are working day in and day out on the frontlines building stronger and healthier neighbourhoods in Windsor-Essex County. Our federal Community Services Recovery Fund, delivered in partnership with United Way and Community Foundations of Canada, is supporting their vital work and boosting their ability to serve residents in our community," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

Organizations like the John McGivney Children's Centre, are using the funds to support programming directly while others like the South Essex Community Council are using them to improve their systems and processes behind the scenes.

"We helped organizations look at the things that charities do behind the scenes so that they can serve our populations with things like data management, customer service, communications," said Lisa Kolody with the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.

This was one-time funding to help organizations recover after the pandemic.
