Late-night crash in Windsor kills one

A driver involved in a fatal crash Wednesday night is facing charges, but not related to the collision.

The Windsor Police Service reports the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tecumseh Road East and Benjamin Avenue. One vehicle, a 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlos, travelling westbound on Tecumseh Road crashed into a newer-model sedan that was turning northbound onto Benjamin.

The passenger in the northbound vehicle was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead just before midnight.

The other passengers, and both drivers involved, were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Chevrolet was searched after the crash and officers discovered a P85 9mm handgun under the driver's seat.

As a result, the 38-year-old driver is facing a number of firearm-related charges.

Charges related to the collision are still under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has information about the incident is urged to contact the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 519-945-9645, ext. 222.

The name of the deceased passenger has not been released as police are working to identify loved ones.
