Windsor police renew call for tips in 2022 restaurant fire

Almost a year after it happened, Windsor police have appealed to the public for tips in a fire that destroyed a popular Walkerville restaurant.

Windsor Fire and Rescue crews were called in the early morning hours of October 27, 2022, to Milos Greek Grill on Wyandotte Street East near Windermere Road. When they arrived, the entire front of the eatery was engulfed in flames.

No one was hurt, but Windsor police later gave the damage estimate as $2-million.

The restaurant's owner, Tom Sotiradis, wrote on Facebook four days before the fire that there had been four break-ins at the restaurant in the previous two months.

"Let's not forget we found a 357 Magnum on our property, and our patio cover was cut, so four guys could sleep on our patio with sleeping bags," read Sotiradis's post. "They took time to light a fire in our wood-burning fireplace to stay warm and comfortable."

Residents and business owners are being asked to give their security camera systems another look and give police a call if they find anything unusual.

Anyone with information should call Windsor police's arson unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
