Corvette Club makes biggest donation yet

Children receiving treatment at the Paediatric Oncology Unit at Windsor Regional Hospital will have access to more comfort items thanks to a large donation from the Corvette Car Club of Windsor.

The club raised $26,000 through its annual waterfront car show.

Around 20 club members brought their corvettes to parade around the Met Campus Thursday to help deliver the funds.

"We've all been affected by cancer in the club in some form or another. For me personally, I was a physiotherapist and I treated a young boy who had a brain tumour so it's something I am pretty passionate about," said Lynda Reaume, show coordinator for the club.

The money raised goes towards purchasing comfort items, toys, games and other items to distract the children as they undergo treatment.

"The kids that come for treatment, they don't really like what we do with them so it's the distraction that the money provides, the games and videos, crafts and toys, there's so many things up there for them to do," said Ursula Debono, a nurse on the unit.

Over the last 13 years, the club has raised over $106,000 for the Paediatric Oncology Unit.

"I think when the kids come into the paediatric oncology program it's scary, they don't want to have to come in here and have the treatments," said Devon Lanspeary, program manager."So when they walk into a room, instead of looking like a hospital room with lots of equipment, that can be very daunting. It instead looks like a glorified playroom."
