LaSalle recognizes compassion of three residents

LaSalle's police chief is honouring three residents who helped save a life.

On Monday, Chief Duncan Davies presented Christie Kovosi, Willow James, and Maya James with a letter of thanks and a Chief's Citizen Award.

Senior Constable Terry Seguin said the three were rollerblading a few weeks ago when they noticed a young person in obvious distress.

The person appeared to be ready to walk into traffic. The trio stopped them and called the police. While they waited for officers to arrive, they reassured the person.

Police were already looking for the person and appreciated their compassion and quick thinking.

"Their timely intervention and assistance not only averted potential harm or fatality, but also expedited the LaSalle Police in successfully locating and providing support to the distressed individual," said a release from the LaSalle Police Service.

"Their actions exemplify what it is to be a community," stated Chief Duncan Davies.

"When citizens step up and go above and beyond and do that courageous thing, or compassionate thing, that really has a significant impact on another person's wellbeing, we find it important to recognize those good deeds," said Seguin.

He added the three have continued their relationship with the person, offering companionship and humanity.

LaSalle Police will not identify the individual.
