City offers special flood waste pickup

If you live in Windsor and have debris from a flooded basement or the yard after last week's powerful thunderstorms, the City of Windsor wants to help.

While regular yard waste collection starts next week, it's also offering special waste pickup for those who suffered a flooded basement.

Those residents can call 311 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the work week to book collection.

Debris must be left at the curb on the day of pickup.

September 6 is the last day residents can request a special collection, although the city is monitoring demand and will assess the need for further service.

"Given the recent storms occurred just before the upcoming regular yard waste collection cycle, we are reminding residents to put out any storm-related branches," said Environmental Services Manager Jim Leether.

Branches must be no larger than 3 inches or 7.6 cm in diameter, cut into 4' or 1.2 m length, and bundled.

Residents are asked not to use wire or plastic bags to bundle branches.

Yard waste must be placed in paper yard waste bags, garbage cans, cardboard boxes or herby curbys and weigh no more than 45 lbs or 20 kg.

The following are regular yard waste collection days:

Zone 1B - Wednesday, September 6

Zone 2B - Thursday, September 7

Zone 3B - Friday, September 8

Zone 4B - Saturday, September 9

Zone 1A - Tuesday, September 12

Zone 2A - Wednesday, September 13

Zone 3A - Thursday, September 14

Zone 4A - Friday, September 15

Yard waste must be placed at the curb before 6 a.m.

If you are unsure what zone you reside in, check the front cover of your collection calendar, call 311, or visit the municipal webpage.

The Public Drop-Off Depot on North Service Road East is also open every Monday, except holidays, to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
