Amherstburg explains delayed text alerts

If you didn't get a text alert during last Thursday night's storm, you're not the only one.

The Town of Amherstburg said some of the alerts it sent out were delayed when cell towers in the area suffered damage during the stormy weather.

"While these disruptions were beyond our control, they did affect the delivery of text messages through some carriers. As a result, some text messages were temporarily stored and delayed," said a statement from the town.

Now that the cell towers are repaired, those messages are going out.

"It's possible that you may receive these outdated messages, which are no longer relevant," continued the statement.

The town said the problem wasn't unique to Amherstburg.

Amherstburg encourages its residents to sign up for Amherstburg ALERT by going online or calling the Amherstburg Fire Department at 519-736-6500.
