UPDATE: Whelpton Street fire investigated as arson

Windsor police now say a fire Saturday night was set intentionally.

Multiple fire crews responded to a structure fire on Whelpton Street, near Albert Road.

At around 11:09 p.m., the fire department reported that secondary searches of the home had been completed and that the fire was under control.

Windsor police and fire investigators returned to the scene on Sunday morning to discover the cause of the blaze. On the weekend, they determined that "multiple areas of fire originated in one unit of the duplex."

The arson unit has since determined that the fire was set on purpose.

One person has been displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported and damages were estimated at $30,000.

Windsor police have asked those living or owning property in the area to check their surveillance cameras, and if they have footage to share, to give them a call.

Anyone with information about the fire should call the Windsor police's arson unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
