Grade 6 students headed to Cop Camp with Essex County OPP

Cop Camp is back after a three-year hiatus because of COVID-19.

From Tuesday to Thursday next week, 75 kids aged 11 and 12 who live in Essex County will be at Camp Cedarwin in Essex for three days of teamwork and leadership-building activities.

They'll also get to hang out with police officers. Ten have volunteered to be camp counsellors.

The campers are graduates of the Grade 6 Values Influences and Peers school program.

During the three days, campers will also get a special visit from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs, who will provide support and comfort as they educate the children about the role of therapy dogs in the community.

Wednesday's itinerary includes fishing at the Cedar Beach Marina and a yachting experience sponsored by the Cedar Island Yacht Club.

The Border City Barkers will be at the camp on Thursday with an agility dog demonstration before a graduation ceremony for campers.

The Essex County OPP have invited children to the camp for 26 years.
