Community organizations offering programs for seniors could be eligible to receive a $25,000 grant from the federal government.
The government has opened the call for proposals for the 2023-2024 New Horizons for Seniors Program. The program offers grants of up to $25,000 to run programs that increase social inclusion and improve the quality of life of seniors in the community.
"If you're organization is looking to work with seniors, to empower seniors, improve their quality of life, connect them, this is the program for you and you really should apply," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.
In 2023, the New Horizons for Seniors Program supported 19 community-based projects in Windsor-Essex with over $400,000 of grant funding.
The North of 50 program at the Arts Collective Theatre benefitted from one of the grants. the program gives seniors opportunities to connect with others in the community through theatre workshops and productions.
"What we love is that we are giving opportunities for seniors to not only have volunteer opportunities but be able to learn and grow, meet new people and be on stage," said Moya Mcalister, vice president and marketing director with Arts Collective Theatre.
The application period is open until September 14, 2023 at 3 p.m. Eligible organizations include not-for-profits, municipalities, Indigenous organizations, educational institutions, public health and social services institutions, and more.
