First "Bus or Bust" campaign begins

An advocacy group, working for more accessible, sustainable public transit in Windsor-Essex is running its first "Bus or Bust" campaign.

Activate Transit Windsor Essex wants to promote exploring the city with public transit.

In 2021, the group surveyed 620 people to learn about how and why people in the area use public transit, what gaps and challenges exist in the system, and what ideas they have for improvements.

The survey found that 48 per cent of the respondents were regular public transit users and 23 per cent were occasional users. The rest were either former riders or didn't use public transit.

Most riders said they felt safe on Windsor buses and it was essentially a draw when it came to timeliness. The biggest issue transit riders had was reliability.

Whether they rode the bus or not, 79 per cent of respondents felt it was difficult to live in Windsor-Essex without a vehicle of their own.

In an effort to get people out from behind the wheel, Activate Transit Windsor Essex is offering a free bus pass for a full week of travel with Transit Windsor.

From Sunday, August 13 to Saturday, August 19 Windsorites are being challenged to take a transit ride to someplace in the city they don't normally go. They're encouraged to take a selfie in front of the bus stop and post it on social media with the hashtag #BusorBust.

At the end of the week, a random participant will be chosen to receive the pass.
