Belle River beach under a bacteria warning

The latest round of bacteria testing at Windsor-Essex beaches has resulted in a warning for one of them.

Lakeview Park West Beach in Belle River is now under a "yellow" beach warning for elevated levels of E. coli bacteria in the water, according to the new weekly test results from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

Under a warning, swimming at the beach is strongly discouraged, as higher-than-normal bacteria levels may cause digestive-based illnesses.

The Belle River beach itself and all other amenities are open as usual.

Water testing this week uncovered bacteria levels in the safe, or "green" area, at the other seven public beaches in Windsor-Essex.

Complete information about summer beach testing can be found on the health unit's official website.
