PGA Canada golf makes a stop in Windsor-Essex this week.
For the first time in four years, the region will host a professional golf tournament with the Windsor Championship. Qualifying was scheduled to begin Monday at Roseland Golf and Curling Club in Windsor, and the actual tournament starts Thursday at Ambassador Golf Club in LaSalle.
This year, the Windsor Championship is partnering with Transition 2 Betterness, an organization that supports families that are dealing with life-altering illnesses.
"When the opportunity came to partner with Transition 2 Betterness, it was one that our committee was very excited to explore," said tournament director Adam Wagner. "The services and programs T2B provides are very important to our local community, and knowing that all funds stay local was very attractive to our committee."
The Windsor Championship returns to the region after a hiatus that included a cancellation because of COVID-19. American Dawson Armstrong won the most recent event in 2019.
The qualifying round at Roseland will feature 156 golfers. The top-eight finishers will fill out the field when the tournament begins Thursday.
