Small improvements made to Bridgeview neighbourhood parks

Ward 2 Councillor Fabio Costante hopes small investments can make a big impact in some neighbourhood parks in the Bridgeview neighbourhood.

The councillor partnered with CUPE Local 82 and the City of Windsor to install soccer nets in Grove Park, Giradot Park, and Curry Park. Seven parks in the neighbourhood also got new benches or picnic tables.

"We've got some playgrounds in some of the parks close by and of course, Wilson Park is undergoing a massive transformation right now but what I was hearing was the need for something close to home and it doesn't have to be anything too fancy but something that keeps the kids active," said Costante.

Each partner in the project provided $8,000 in funding.

"It's something that we in CUPE 82 find to be very important. Participating in the community, doing things that, as we live and work here, that can be useful for the whole community," said Guy Ladouceur, treasurer of CUPE Local 82.

The nets and picnic tables were installed in the parks last week.

"I've been in this area for almost three decades and I haven't seen activity in [Grove] Park, except for people walking through, ever," said Kirsten Blok. "You put up these nets and the next thing you know everybody is in the park and I love it."
