University of Windsor gets high Canadian ranking

The University of Windsor has ranked high on the list of top schools in Canada.

Under the 2024 edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, U of W was ranked as the 20th-best university in Canada. The school is ranked for its commitment to research and academic excellence.

Windsor also ranked seventh nationally among non-medical universities and fourth in Ontario.

According to the ranking firm, U of W's location on an international border has helped enrich academics and research.

"This location speaks to Windsor’s greatness as an internationally oriented, multi-disciplined institution that actively enables a broad diversity of students, faculty, and staff to make a better world through education, scholarship, research, and engagement," read the school's entry in the rankings.

U of W President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Gordon added that the school has its place among the top schools worldwide.

"This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students who continuously strive for excellence in teaching, learning, research, and creative activity," said Gordon.

On research alone, Windsor was ranked among the top-third universities in the world, according to Dr. Shanthi Johnson, U of W's Vice-President of Research and Innovation.

"This accomplishment is attributed to the University's dedicated faculty, who average an impressive 101 citations per faculty member," said Johnson. "The University of Windsor actively promotes innovation and collaboration within the local and global communities, and we recognize that incorporating diverse ways of knowing, knowledge traditions, and effective methods of creating and disseminating knowledge greatly enhances the quality and depth of our academic endeavours."

The complete university ranking can be found on the official Quacquarelli Symonds website.
