Spitfires deal Holmes to Kingston for three draft picks

The Windsor Spitfires are making roster adjustments as their offseason continues.

The OHL club announced Friday that it had traded defenceman Jacob Holmes to the Kingston Frontenacs, along with their fifth-round draft pick in 2027.

In return, Windsor will receive three draft picks currently held by the Frontenacs, Niagara’s fourth-round pick in 2024, Kingston’s sixth-round pick in 2024, and Guelph’s third-round pick in 2026.

Holmes' run in Windsor was relatively short. The Alliston native was traded to the Spits during this past season from the Sudbury Wolves. He played 35 games for Windsor, scoring twice for a total of 12 points.

Much has been going on with the Spitfires this past week. Defenceman Rodwin Dionicio was the team's only draftee in this year's NHL Entry Draft, going to the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round.

The club is also looking for a new head coach, after Marc Savard accepted an assistant coaching position with the NHL's Calgary Flames. Savard had two successful years in Windsor, leading the team to the OHL Western Conference championship in the 2021-2022 season, then the conference regular-season title this past season.

Training camp is tentatively set for late this summer. The 2023-2024 regular season for Windsor begins on the road in Sarnia on September 29. The home opener is September 30 against Guelph.
