If you've got a golf cart, the Ontario Provincial Police remind you to keep it off the road.
Officers in Essex County said that even though other low-speed vehicles are allowed on provincial roads, golf carts don't meet the requirements, and you might have to pay a hefty fine.
The fine for operating a motor vehicle on a roadway with no insurance is $5,000. The driver could also have to pay penalties for operating a motor vehicle without required equipment, operating a motor vehicle with no vehicle permit, or operating a motor vehicle on a roadway with no license.
Police add if you're intoxicated, being behind the wheel of a golf cart doesn't mean you won't face impaired driving charges. That's on or off roads.
The only exception is on Pelee Island and in the Municipality of Huron-Kinloss, where a ten-year pilot project is underway on roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h or less.
