Brush fire in LaSalle park set deliberately

Police in LaSalle are looking for a group of young men spotted leaving Brunet Park in a hurry yesterday just after flames erupted in a brush area.

The group left in a silver, older-model hatchback around 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

Investigators believe the group deliberately set the fire.

Firefighters put the flames out before it could cause any serious damage and nobody was hurt.

"During the dry season, a small fire can spread quickly and become a wildfire," read a release from the LaSalle Police Service. "Please help us prevent a disaster."

Officers ask those living near Brunet Park to check their surveillance cameras and call them if they have footage that can identify the group.

You can reach LaSalle Police at 519-969-5210, but anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
