Leamington house fire traced back to exhaust fan

Leamington's fire chief suggests residents check their bathroom exhaust fans for signs of dust build-up after a house fire on Wednesday night.

Firefighters arrived at the house on Oak Street East between Plumbrook Drive and Bennie Avenue just before 7:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Don Williamson said flames erupted in the bathroom exhaust fan and moved into the attic.

A tenant in the rental unit saw it start.

Williamson said it may have been an electrical fire, but dust build-up may have contributed to it.

The house is older with multiple additions, so he wasn't sure how many people live there.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.
