Second annual Alumni and Student Pow Wow celebrates Indigenous culture

Students and alumni at the University of Windsor and St. Clair College are celebrating Indigenous culture and community with their second annual Alumni and Student Pow Wow.

Running from May 11 through to May 13 at the Toldo Lancer Centre, the event welcomes students and alumni from both institutions along with surrounding school boards.

"This event is a celebration of the resilience and strength of Indigenous cultures and traditions," said Bev Jacobs, University of Windsor senior advisor to the president on Indigenous relations and outreach. "By sharing these traditions, we can help to build bridges of understanding and ensure that Indigenous cultures continue to thrive for generations to come."

The celebration starts at 7 p.m. Thursday with a performance from Juno-winning musician DJ Shub. The concert is open to the public but registration is required.

The three-day event will include drumming, dancing, crafts, and traditional food.

"We're so excited to see people from all communities come together to enjoy themselves while learning about these traditions," Jacobs said.
