ERCA celebrates milestone with hiking fundraiser

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a series of fundraising hikes.

The ERCA Foundation is launching W.E. Hike 2023, a series of guided walks at conservation areas and trails across Windsor-Essex. For a tax-deductible donation, hikers can go on walks ranging from one to three kilometres, and be led by some of the area's most respected naturalists.

"W.E.Hike 2023 is a great way to get outdoors and discover some of the lesser-known facts about our incredible region," said ERCA Foundation President Claire Wales. "We’re so proud to host this new fundraising event and hope many people across the region will want to Hike for Conservation."

Phil Roberts, a former head of the City of Windsor's parks and recreation department and the former "Nature Guy" on local television, will present "Winged, Wiggly, and Wild" at Holiday Beach Conservation Area. Birding expert Jeremy Hatt will lead bird watchers around the Shorebird Habitat.

ERCA staff and volunteers will conduct additional events at conservation areas across Windsor-Essex, highlighting flora and fauna. Residents are also encouraged to host their own fundraising hikes.

All hikes will take place on Saturday, June 3. Hikers can participate with a tax-deductible donation of $25 or more.

Complete information on W.E. Hike 2023, and on how to become a host, can be found on the official ERCA website.
