Tecumseh Town Councillors will decide soon whether to embark on a pilot project to bring an e-scooter program to the town.
A report on Tuesday night's agenda suggests drawing up a service agreement with Bird Canada that councillors could approve at their May 9 meeting.
"Research has concluded that a stand-up E-Scooter or E-Bike vendor would only be interested in a pilot project with Tecumseh if there was an opportunity to leverage an existing program in Windsor or if there was a county-wide program involving other communities in Essex County," read the report.
The City of Windsor partnered with Bird Canada in May 2021 and has offered the use of e-bikes and e-scooters for a fee ever since. In February, city councillors agreed to a three-year agreement with Bird Canada.
Staff with the Town of Tecumseh have discussed the feasibility of a program leveraging Windsor's. Based on those talks, Bird Canada recommended 30 e-scooters this year, possibly adding e-bikes next year.
The service area in Tecumseh would be bound by the riverfront pathway, Brighton Road to the east, Tecumseh Road or County Road 22 to the south, and the border with the City of Windsor in the west.
Windsor's program is city-wide.
Tecumseh Town Hall and Lakewood Park South would host parking stations.
If approved, Tecumseh's project would start on May 19 and run until September 30.
