The arrival of spring in Windsor means the eventual arrival of outdoor sports.
City-owned sports fields and baseball diamonds are currently being prepped for the coming season. Weather permitting, the City is targeting May 6 as the opening date for the baseball diamonds. All other fields should open on May 13 as long as weather and ground conditions allow.
While the milder weather may be tempting for sports enthusiasts, the City's parks and recreation department is asking for patience.
"We ask that users refrain from using the fields and diamonds, as the turf needs time to mature and to allow pre-season maintenance to occur," read a media release. "Using the fields when they are closed or without a permit may be subject to a fine for unauthorized use."
Complete information about all of the City of Windsor's recreational offerings can be found on its official website. Specific questions about sports fields should be asked by calling (519) 253-2300, ext. 2714.
