A foot chase by Windsor police has resulted in a 28-year-old man facing multiple weapon counts.
Members of the police's Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) squad were on Albert Road near Whelpton Street at around 11 a.m. Wednesday. Officers approached the suspect, who was seen removing a gun from his waistband. The man then threw the weapon over a fence and took off running. Following a short chase, officers arrested the man on Walker Road.
The weapon, a semi-automatic handgun, was recovered with some ammunition.
The Windsor resident is charged with four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, and one count each of possessing a loaded firearm, possessing a restricted firearm without a licence, carrying a concealed weapon, and breach of probation.
The investigation is ongoing.
