Ontario Provincial Police are investigating at least two instances of damage to wind turbines in Lakeshore.
The first incident was reported to police on April 4, though the damage may have occurred in the past month. A wind turbine had its transformer damaged.
The second was reported on Wednesday. Employees arrived at the site and discovered damage to the turbine's base.
"The consequences of damaging wind turbines can go well beyond the financial impact," said OPP Constable Steven Duguay. "Individuals are exposed to the risk of electric shock, fire, explosion, injury, and death."
Police are asking those who live and work in areas where wind turbines are located to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. If you see anything unusual or suspicious happening, obtain as much information as possible and contact police.
The OPP has reminded people that 911 can be used for emergencies and crimes in progress. Non-emergency calls can be placed at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
