Singh visits Windsor Salt picket line

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh visited Windsor Salt workers on the picket line as contract talks move forward slowly.

The over 250 employees represented by Unifor Local 1959 and Local 240 have been on strike for seven weeks.

Singh offered words of encouragement on the picket line Tuesday afternoon.

"You're not just fighting for your own jobs and your own work conditions you're fighting for all workers. This is a solidarity movement. Every time workers stand up and demand better it is better for every worker in this country. So I want to salute you and acknowledge you," said Singh.

The union and mine owner Stone Canyon have talks scheduled until Friday this week.

"Everything is very slow like nothing is moving quickly at all. We haven't even went to monetary yet, we're still in non-monetary. It's a very slow process, very agonizing," said Jodi Nesbitt, president of Unifor Local 240.

No negotiations are scheduled beyond Friday.
