LaSalle to consider names for waterfront

Town Councillors in LaSalle may choose a name for its waterfront at its meeting on Tuesday night.

Last fall, it asked the public for input.

More recently, it asked town staff to report back with three names it had vetted.

The names up for consideration are "LaSalle Waterfront," "LaSalle Waterfront Landing," or "LaSalle Waterfront Commons."

The report recommends councillors pick "LaSalle Waterfront Commons."

Town councillors rejected the name "Petite Cote Waterfront" last summer after the family of Gilbert Maure objected.

Eventually, the town will boast a 60-acre, multi-use destination on the site of what now includes Gil Maure Park. The developed area will have water features, a winter skating trail, an event centre and an event plaza that pays tribute to LaSalle's English, French, and Indigenous heritage.

The new Gil Maure Festival Plaza is currently under construction on the site.
